He who walks with the wise

How many beautifully serendipitous moments have you experienced? Mine was with Lucy La Grassa roughly 10 years ago.

At the time, I randomly decided to take a training course as part of my ‘professional learning and development’ with my organisation at the time. Lucy was the lead instructor and consultant hired to train us.

Frankly, I had walked in with deep skepticism — as I always do at the start of any event.

Sigh — here we go again,  I thought to myself.

But I always season my skepticism with a deep sense of curiosity, too. And I’m grateful for it.

Lucy’s delivery was brilliant and intellectually stimulating. After the class, I had briefly chatted with her and from there, I knew I wanted to develop a relationship (and she seemed receptive). I invited her for coffee. From there, an enviable relationship developed.

It was all so organic, so sincere.

If someone asks me how to describe Lucy, I’d say – “Lucy is one of the most unassuming people I’ve ever known. A humble, brilliant serial entrepreneur. Her vast experience, knowledge, and networks make her a force to be reckoned with. She stands out as the one who always puts others first, driven by a purpose that transcends her individuality.” But that’s her ‘professional’ side.

If someone asks me how to describe the Lucy I know, I’d say – “There aren’t any words to describe Lucy, in fact. Words will fail. But if I am compelled to make an attempt… Lucy is the epitome of a true leader — humble, sincere, attentive, warm, loving, wise. She is that friend and mentor with unparalleled wisdom, guiding you through your own life’s journey and giving you a helping hand when she thinks it would be beneficial to provide it. Who is Lucy? She is the one person I wish for everyone to have as they journey through life.”

Many people will roam through life without someone like Lucy in their lives. The only thing I will say on this matter is, if you’re curious and courageous enough, you will meet her.

He who walks with the wise will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
